Ariadne in Middle Age

Plump as a pincushion, fair
game for the dullest barbs,
needled by regret I grow
to hate my great shadow so much
I sleep the days away

& a nappy-headed knight threads
each bend & fold of my dreams
with his capable lance, frees
the thing with horns
from its cage of flesh,
its foul matter.
